Our home is a corner storefront in the historic Daylight Building, a fixture of downtown Knoxville since 1927 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Long before our wood-fired hearth, this space was part of the city’s everyday commerce, home to businesses built around materials, tools, and practical craft, including The C.F. Johnston Paint Company and, later, Western Auto. Nearly a century later, the tall windows, brickwork, and industrial details remain. They now frame an open kitchen, a live-fire hearth, and a dining room where the history of the building becomes part of the meal. Cooking here connects us to Knoxville in a direct and tangible way: to the people who built this city, to the materials that shaped it, and to a tradition of careful work that continues every night in the kitchen.
